Star Trek XI

Anyone who knows me, has long been aware of my love of Star Trek. I have always particularly liked the original series with Bill Shatner (Kirk) and Leonard Nimoy (Spock). The latest movie in a long series of Star Trek movies goes back to the first adventure of Captain James T. Kirk and his crew, and I must say from the pictures I've seen and the many interviews I've read it's shaping up to be a promising and exciting film.

It has several actors that people who are not Star Trek fans may be interested to see. Some of the well-known actors filling out the cast in this film include Zachary Quinto (Sylar from Heroes), Simon Pegg (Shawn of the Dead and Hot Fuzz), and Karl Urban (Caesar in Xena and Eomer from Lord of the rings). They will be playing the roles of Spock, Scotty, and McCoy respectively.

I encourage everyone to at least look into the movie!

Fall Is Here

It still amazes me that it's the end of October. It's only 4 days until Halloween and just 6 days until we roll those clocks back an hour. The fall is here! I'm still waiting for the leaves to change and the weather to start cooling down, though today has been a little cooler than it has been this past week.

I've always loved cloudy days, rain, and having a fire burning in the fireplace. This is my favorite time of the year!

Soon it'll be Thanksgiving, though not before I have to write my term paper for my foreign policy class....Definitely not looking to that one. In fact I'd rather write my paper for my Middle Eastern politics class on the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt on Nasser than my paper for Routh's class. Oh well at least it'll be out of the way soon. Returning from that little tangent, I'm looking forward spending time with my family and Sean's family on Thanksgiving and Christmas. It always gives me a sense of peace during the holidays and I love catching up with people.

So what are you all looking forward to this season?

Surprises

Surprises are wonderful things and come in many forms. They can come in the form of winning bingo at work (hehe), having someone do you a favor without asking, or someone going out of their way to make your day. I think everyone deserves to be surprised, and it's too bad that they are spread far apart. But then that would be the nature of a surprise to come when you least expect it. ;-)

Caramel Apples

I must say that caramel apples are the best, except for the fact that the caramel sticks to your teeth like barnacles to the hull of a ship. With each bite comes a struggle to get the sticky tasty goodness off of you teeth. And once you've fought through all this you are left with an apple, which in comparison to the sweetness of caramel, tastes a little bland.

However, all and all they are a very delicious, seasonal treat.

Foreign Policy Midterm

So this test is about to kick my ass to the curb....I need more time to study! I even got up an hour earlier to restudy but I'm still feeling like there is a dark pit in my stomach.

This test is going to suck!

Just A Thought

Lately I've been going through a nesting-type mindset. I've been thinking about what it would be like to have a baby. (This does NOT mean in any way that I want one right now- nobody panic!) I know a lot of people who are about to start, or have already started, having a family, and can't help but feel a faint pang of envy. I'm only 20 it's true, but I've always felt older than my age.

Of course when it comes to having children good is always coupled with some bad- expense, stress, and overall physical impact. But it would be worth it...someday.

I guess it might just be my maternal instincts shining through. The thought of starting a family with Sean makes me smile from ear to ear, and I absolutely cannot wait.

It'll be years before we have kids but I am looking forward to it. :-)

A Cup of Tea

I really could use a nice cup of tea. Anyone willing to bring me one? lol.

I dislike being sick immensely!

Diet Time!

I know I will hear this from at least five different people that I don't need to diet. Well, I don't. But I want to simply because I'd like to eat a more balanced diet. I've been feeling sleepy and rundown the majority of the time, and that's not how I want to feel when I have free time after school and work.

I've started taking vitamins every morning and trying to get more sleep, though it is difficult to come home from work and then crash out for the night. Now I figure it's time to make sure I try to be healthier, especially with Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas looming on the horizon.

I want to be able to eat turkey and cake, damn it, and not feel fat after doing so!

Expectations

Expectations are dangerous little monsters. Expectations of oneself lead to disappointment, not to mention stress. Now I'm not saying that you should not have any expectations of yourself, I'm just saying it is important to make sure they are realistic ones. But at least when you're dealing with expectations of yourself, you are the only one involved. Goals are essential, expectations will lead to grief.

Now here's the ever-disappointing and sticky problem of having expectations of others. If you have certain expectations of what a person should say or do- You will be disappointed. You cannot control the actions of another person and to believe that a person will do all that you want them to do is unrealistic and unfair. There is no way that a person can be expected to anticipate the needs and wants of every given person in that person's life, so why would you ask someone to do that?

Expectations of another person will lead to disappointment. Sorry to disappoint. :-P

More Proof

Yesterday I got more proof that I should stop worrying about whether someone gets mad at me or not. I try to be as considerate as I can be and sometimes it really does become an excruciating flaw. I get overly wound up about things that I have no control over, and I'm sure my frequent illnesses are caused by stress.

I shouldn't be stressed. School is going alright lately. Sean and I are getting married soon, which I look forward to more and more each day. My family and friends love me.

I need to stop stressing.

David's Bridal "One Love" Contest

There is only 12 days left for the contest, and as of a few minutes ago we are ranked 68 out of 1544 entries. Not too bad, but keep on voting! Not only do we win stuff for our wedding but also money toward paying our honeymoon. :-)

Why Cyane?

When picking a name for my new blog, which for me picking a name is no easy task, I decided to have the same name as my old blog from many moons ago.

Why Cyane?

Well Cyane is the traditional name of the queen of the Amazons, and the name has always meant strength to me.

Of course there is another Cyane in Greek mythology where a nymph named Cyane tried to prevent Hades from abducting Persephone. Upon failure, she dissolved away in tears and melted into her pool....but we'll just ignore that shall we?

What I Can't Stand!

I've come to this conclusion a while ago but it was reaffirmed last night. I HATE my DVR!!! It sucks! Because of it, I missed Boston Legal and Heroes! How frustrating is that?! Now instead of just sitting down and fast-forwarding through the commercials, I'll have to watch them online with the commercials you can't skip. Tre-frustrating!

Everything Cured By Sleep

Everything can be cured by sleep but I never get enough of it.

Something Serene

I really like this photo by my soon-to-be father-in-law. He's quite the photographer if I do say so myself!

Why not, right?

So I have decided after a very long break to start writing again. Hopefully, I'll keep up with it but if not, then what's there to lose?

Now what to write next? ;-)
